History & Background

The Entrepreneur’s Network is a LinkedIn group started in 2006 as a meeting place for business owners from around the world. It’s a place where entrepreneurs could share their stories and meet other founders and business owners.

LinkedIn did a great job of making it easy for business owners to opt into the group, and before long the group had over 50 members. The members were active, sharing stories and advice, and soon there were over 1,000 members. I personally tried to look at every new member and make sure members were not posting spam as articles.

Flash forward to 2018 – we now have between 25 and 50 new member requests every day. Mid-way through 2018, my younger brother and father passed away. I fell behind in reviewing members and had over 1,500 members waiting for membership. I had an ambitious young entrepreneur, Sam Ragav from India, join my Entrepreneur’s Network team as an Admin, and he started reviewing new members requests as well. From august until the end of the year we approved over 5,000 new members. As of January 2019, the group has over 55,000 members.

The Entrepreneur’s Network on LinkedIn and Clarity Fi

Over the last year or two, LinkedIn has been increasingly limiting the ability to feature articles, communicate, and provide key information to the group. My view is that these changes have limited the value of the groups. So, when refreshing my own website, Clarity FI, I decided to add a section for this group.

To date, everything I have done with this group has been at my own expense, so I decided to consider it a group sponsored by my primary business, Clarity Fi. Clarity Fi helps businesses grow profitably through financial business consulting, bookkeeping and financial leadership services sized just right for small businesses.

Early in 2019, I started surveying new members about what they would like to gain from this group. I learned many interesting things – You can check out the Survey Results. Among some of the most important finds were as follows:

Participants wanted to connect with other entrepreneurs 85%
Wanted to help other entrepreneurs 49%
Wanted to read entrepreneur-minded content 45%
Wanted to provide it 23%
Wanted to promote their businesses 33%
Wanted information to help them run their business 43%
On starting their business 33%

And we heard from many people who completed the “other” field that they wanted genuine stories from real entrepreneurs about their challenges and successes.

We needed to provide the platform where all this could be shared, enjoyed, and learned.

Goal for the Group and this website

A series of articles from entrepreneurs with the goal to provide other business owners and soon-to-be business owners with a realistic picture of what it takes to run a business and some of the challenges commonly faced.

I’m hoping that as a community we can learn from each other and even support each other in various ways.I hope these stories will be raw and real,not polished TV productions about entrepreneurship. We intend to leave the voice of the entrepreneur in the article and plan to provide only minimal editing.

These will be authentic stories of the challenges we face.
Over time I plan to add more features to the Entrepreneur’s Network, such as ways entrepreneurs can connect with one another and learn about other businesses.
